A petition was sent to Queen Elizabeth II requesting her assistance with regards to the unjust confiscation of firearms by the Australian government by disallowing such legislation, as well as requesting assistance in opposing other unjust anti-freedom laws in Australia.
The Queen's response was to simply refer the petitioners back to the very same people who made those laws.
If the Monarchy will not defend the rights and freedoms of its subjects, then the Monarchy no longer has any valid purpose.

PETITION TO QUEEN ELIZABETH II
TO DISALLOW LAWS RELATING TO FIREARMS
We, the undersigned citizens of Australia, do hereby request that you disallow the unjust laws relating to the banning of private ownership of legitimate firearms in Australia (whether such laws have already been passed this year - 1996 - or are subsequently passed this year). We request that you disallow this law by the power vested in you as according to Section 59 of the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Australia.
We also request that you assist Australians in opposing other unjust laws passed within Australia
that limit the rights and freedoms of Australian citizens; such as the various Racial Vilification laws and Racial Discrimination laws, and that you make your views known regarding the two latter classes of laws mentioned as well as regarding the Firearms laws - both in public and to the senders of this petition.
We request that you take these actions following your duty expressly stated, such as in your Coronation Oath, and in accordance with moral right as well as by the rights expressed in the Magna Carta and in the 1689 Bill of Rights.
We fervently, humbly, and urgently request your assistance in these matters.

BUCKINGHAM PALACE
28th April, 1997
Dear Mr. Andrews,
The Queen has asked me to thank you for your letter and petitions of 4th April concerning changes to the private ownership of firearms in Australia.
Her Majesty has made careful note of the views you express in your letter and petitions, but I should explain that this is not a matter in which The Queen would intervene. As a constitutional Sovereign, Her Majesty acts through her Governor-General on the advice of her Australian Ministers and it is to them that your appeal should be directed.
I am, therefore, directed to forward your letter to the Governor-General of Australia so that he may be aware of your approach to The Queen.
Yours sincerely,
(SIMON GIMSON)
